Biking around NYC teaching kids how to rap

In 2015 my wife and I sat at the kitchen table and dreamed up an educational Hip Hop music and mentoring program for youth. 10 years later, by the grace of God we’re still going strong.

Yesterday I took a bicycle ride to MS 57 James Weldon in East Harlem to launch our R.H.Y.M.E after school program there with JSWISS.

At the same time my RHYME teammates Jason and Caleb were facilitating RHYME at another school in also Harlem, MS 206.

On my way back home after a great session with students in Harlem, while cruising down southern boulevard in the Bronx I decided to stop by yet another RHYME program in session at RTG North, Bronx Connect, lead by Rhyme teaching artists, Chris Deroux and Kevin “Advice”

Turns out one of the students had just been asking for me. He was working on recording his debut verse which I knew he was excited about. Kevin and Chris helped him produce a beat, engineer the session, write and record lyrics. I got to help coach him through a few bars and then write a few of my own before hopping back on my bike.

My soul smiled the whole way home. Grateful to God for a rich and fulfilling life. Thank you to everyone who makes a day like this possible.

A mountaineer / surmounting doubt and fear / purveying truth and paying dues / till my account is clear / a single day to God is something like a thousand years / so whether or not the crowd is here / I’m a say it loud and clear
